K-2 Assessment FAQ for Principals & Teachers
The Office of Accountability has put together a compilation of questions/answers regarding the K-2 assessment. The file can be found at the Accountability and Testing public internet sites under the Files section (as well as here). We encourage you to distribute this document to your teachers.  We also created a version appropriate for parents you can use, available here
Educational Return on Investment Report
The Department of Research, Evaluation, and Assessment, in collaboration with project leaders in the Curriculum and Instruction department, completed its second annual Return on Investment (ROI) report.  The ROI report provides an in depth evaluation of certain initiatives by the Knox County Schools during the 2012-2013 school year, including their strengths and weaknesses.  It also offers recommendations for these projects and program evaluations moving forward.

The 2014 Educational Return on Investment Report:  2012-2013 Program Evaluation report has three sections:
  • the executive summary, which is a broad overview of the programs evaluated and the most compelling themes and considerations that emerged from the program evaluations;
  • the management reports, which provide detailed information about each of the programs and investment analysis, as well as major findings and recommendations;  and
  • the technical reports, which describe the evaluation process for each program in terms of data collection, methodology, and the results of our statistical analyses.
The report is available for download here and below in the Files section.  If you have any questions about the report, please contact us at rea@knoxschools.org
The Tripod Project
As part of our district’s effort to provide feedback to teachers that improves instruction, students in grades 3-12 will be asked to complete a short, confidential survey on March 11th or 12th.

This survey is designed by The Tripod Project, a consortium of schools and districts working together to close the academic achievement gap. Our district has decided to pilot the Tripod student perception surveys this year and the data will be used to provide feedback for teachers and administrators. The survey has been designed to be administered twice during the school year. Last fall, randomly selected classes were surveyed (for teachers with multiple classes). This spring, teachers will be selecting which class they would like to have surveyed.

The responses to these surveys will provide important information about students’ classroom experiences.

District-level results from the Fall 2013 administration of the survey are available at the links below.  We have also posted the parent letter regarding the Spring 2014 administration of the Tripod survey.
